“Understanding Current Events in American Media”
Dear Graduate Students and Visiting Scholars,
My name is Carolyn Yu and I am the coordinator for the 4-week Free English Class starting on June 6th.
This class is sponsored by IGSM (International Graduate Student Ministry, www.igsmonline.org), a UC Berkeley campus group. The IGSM Fall English class has been a popular class for the past 6 years with an enrollment of about 60-70 students and 8-10 English teachers each term.
In addition to our Fall class, this year, we are presenting our NEW Summer 4-week course “Understanding Current Events in American Media.” Here are some details about the class.
Days: Four (4) Sundays (6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27)
Time: 9:00-11:00amPlace: YWCA Berkeley Building, 2nd floor
(We are not affiliated with YWCA’s English in Action program)
Address: 2600 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA 94704 (Bancroft & Bowditch St.)
The focus of this four-week class is to improve your English listening and comprehension skills through talking about current events. We will read magazine articles and listen to radio programs on events happening in the US and internationally and then have small group discussions under the guidance of certified English teachers and native speaker instructors.
We will draw from popular media sources, such as TIME Magazine and National Public Radio (NPR), to help you stay informed of current events while living and studying in America. This course also provides practical tips and strategies on how to become a better listener and speaker in academic settings and also in group meetings.
Please sign up at the link below to register for the class.

Look forward to meeting you in class.
